Just outside the Los Angeles metropolitan area of Los Angeles is the suburban city of Tustin. The 2010 Census of Population and Housing shows there were 75,540 residents of Tustin, up 11.9 percent from 2010. The overall population of California also jumped between 2000 and 2010, increasing 10 percent.
Data from the census shows there were 25,203 housing units in Tustin, of which owners occupied 50.8 percent of homes while 49.2 percent were rentals. The median value of owner-occupied homes between 2006 and 2010 was $573,100, higher than the state's median of $458,500 and competitive with homes for sale in Los Angeles County. The average rent during that same time was $1,424.
The 2010 Census listed the median age of those living in Tustin as around 33 years old and notes that 26.8 percent of the population was under the age of 18 while just 8.5 percent of residents were 65 years of age or older.
