Located in the northern part of Orange County is the small city of Placentia, home to 50,533 residents. The city's population increased 8.7 percent during roughly the past decade, according to the 2010 Census of Population and Housing, up from the 46,488 recorded in 2000. The overall population of California jumped 10 percent during that period and has over 37 million residents.
Placentia is known for its quiet and safe neighborhoods, great for families, as data shows 38.6 percent of all households had children under the age of 18. There were 16,872 housing units, of which owners occupied 65.3 percent while 34.7 percent were rented. The median value of owner-occupied housing units between 2006 and 2010 was $576,400, higher than the statewide average of $458,500 and competitive with homes for sale in Los Angeles county and other surrounding areas.
The 2010 Census listed the median age of those living in Placentia as 36 years old and 24.6 percent of people were under the age of 18 while 12.6 percent of the population was 65 years of age or older.
