The 2010 U.S. Census of Population and Housing reported there were just 35,852 residents of Manhattan Beach, while the population rose 3.8 percent from the number of residents reported in 2000. The overall population of California also increased, reaching 37,253,956 in 2010, up 10 percent from the previous census. Manhattan Beach has been home to a number of celebrities and professional athletes including Tiger Woods and Maria Sharapova.
Data from the census reported there were 14,929 housing units at an average density of 3,787.9 per square mile. Information also shows that owners occupied 67.1 percent of homes while 32.9 percent were renter-occupied. The median value of owner-occupied housing units between 2006 and 2010 was more than double the statewide average of $458,500 and reached a little over $1 million
