Making up the majority of the Santa Clarita Valley, the city of Santa Clarita is the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County and the twenty-fourth largest city in California. While the city attracts many tourists with its multiple theme parks, its ranking as the sixth safest city in the nation as well as other titles makes it a desirable place for California families to own real estate in Los Angeles County.
The 2010 U.S. Census reported the 52.8-square-mile city was home to 176,320 residents. The population grew 16.7 percent between 2000 and 2010, well over the statewide population, which increased 10 percent during the same time.
The data showed that there were 60,055 housing units at an average density of 1,175 per square mile, and the majority, 71.1 percent, were owner-occupied while renters occupied 28.9 percent of homes. The median value of owner-occupied housing units between 2006 and 2010 was $465,700, just over the California median of $458,500.
