Located in the lower half of Orange County, the city of Laguna Niguel is home to many wealthy neighborhoods and has done a good job attracting residents with its California climate and abundance of parks. The 2010 Census of Population and Housing reported 62,979 people called Laguna Niguel home, up 1.8 percent from information collected in 2000. The overall population of the state increased 10 percent between 2000 and 2010, reaching over 37 million.
Data from 2010 shows there were 25,312 housing units in the city, of which 72 percent were owner-occupied while 28 percent were rented. Homes in the area are comparable in price with homes for sale in Los Angeles County and the median value is more than the statewide average of $458,500. Between 2006 and 2010, the median value of owner-occupied housing units in Laguna Niguel was $748,300.
The 2010 Census listed the median age of residents as around 43 years old and 22.6 percent were under the age of 18 while 13 percent of the population was 65 years of age or older.
