The city of Azusa is located just 27 miles northeast of the busy streets of Los Angeles and is located in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains. Stretching just 9.13 square miles, the 2010 U.S. Census of Population and Housing noted there were 46,361 people who called Azusa home, up 3.7 percent from the population in 2000 while the overall population of California grew 10 percent in the same time.
The Census said the city had 13,386 housing units, of which 53.5 percent were owner-occupied while 46.5 percent were rented. Unlike many homes in Los Angeles County, the median value of owner-occupied homes in Azusa was less than the statewide average of $485,500, reaching just $385,500. Data also shows the average rent paid each month was $1,172.
The 2010 Census listed the median age of those living in Azusa as around 29 years old and 26.8 percent of the population was under the age of 18 while just 7.7 percent of residents were 65 years of age or older.
